Life Changing Budget Tips For Furnishing Your First Apartment
Is it possible to have a dream apartment but not spend a ton of money?! Yes babe, yes it is!
When I moved into my first apartment post college, I was beyond excited! My own place to call home and I could get creative with my style and decor!
Not only was the rent daunting in the first place, but I did not even think about the expenses of getting all the furniture, kitchen stuff and decorations! Plus, who knew it would be so expensive to buy something like a wall hanging?
One thing to keep in mind when you are investing into your first apartment is that you don’t need to get everything at one time. In fact, one of my absolute favorite sayings from Oprah is ‘ You can have it all, just not all at once’, which is a total weight off your shoulders right?! So sit back, don’t stress out and lets dive in.
I have put together a guide of all the essentials you will need room by room. These are must-haves and should be what you purchase first before any kind of decorations. Don’t worry, you will have wiggle room to spice up your space and make it a beautiful statement of your adult life!
Mattress ( This always needs to be new...NO ACCEPTIONS! You need to be willing to sacrifice other things for a little while to get a new mattress so you don’t end up with bed bugs all up in your grill)
Curtains (if not already provided)
Shower Curtain (if not a sliding door)
Towels ( at least 2 to start)
Plunger and toilet scrubber (trust me babe, nothing is worse than having to ask your neighbor for a plunger rather than a cup of sugar...lol)
Living Room/Dining room Essentials:
Table (to start just decide between a dining table or a coffee table)
Rug (use this to decorate and make a statement that will set the tone for you apartment style)
Lighting (if you need a little extra lighting try using christmas twinkle lights like I do or get yourself a lamp off of Amazon like this!)
Kitchen Essentials: (you will absolutely need kitchen goods if you want to save money on food everyday!)
Pots/Pans/Baking (at least one pot, one pan and one baking tray)
Plates/Bowls/Silverware (try to get enough to serve 4 people)
4 mugs and 4 cups
Knives (1 serrated and one smooth for starting out)
Cleaning Supplies ( all natural is best!)
Wall art or Decals
