Hop On The Goal Crushing Band Wagon!

Ok guys, let’s talk about #GOALS!

I don’t know about you but I am the type of person that will have a million ideas floating around in my head and I will feel insanely inspired to do all sorts of incredible things. But when it comes down to actually making it happen, I just have to admit that I am not the best at finishing it all up and getting it out there.

Can you relate?!

When I think about why I may be like this it really came down to some old feelings I still carry with me from when I was growing up. Most of my friends in school when I was a kid would see me struggling in classes and comfort me by saying, “ You are one of the smartest people I know, Jess, but your just not school smart...I bet when you are all grown up you will be totally awesome though!”

Yikes!! I just got served a massive compliment sandwich!

I have really seen this mindset of not feeling smart trickle throughout my life--and goal setting has definitely been impacted.  You see, my feelings of being not good enough and not smart enough make me think to myself who am I to do great things? Who am I to  help others? What if I am not smart enough to do it or embarass myself because I do it wrong?

These thoughts make me the poster child for being blocked at achieving my dreams! But not anymore…:)

Here are my steps to goal setting that have changed the way I look at achieving a goal and staying positive despite the setbacks! Consider this your kick in the butt to getting yourself back on the goal crushing band wagon!

  1. Write it down!  Writing down all of my goals is an awesome way to keep myself accountable.  I can see everything clearly in one place and don’t have to worry about forgetting to do something. This also really gets me inspired to see how much amazing shenanigans I have to look forward to!

  2. Give yourself a timeline! I think this is SO important in crushing your goals. When you put it down on paper that you want to accomplish something important within a certain timeline, you are setting yourself up for success! This allows you to move forward because you have set yourself a timeline that you need to time block for within your normal schedule.

As an example, I wanted to launch my website and was so excited to have this incredible platform to share with people and to express myself. So I made a Squarespace account and decided that I could do this! Well….months went by and I hadn’t made the time to work on it because I did not give myself a timeline to work from. Flash forward, I realized to get my butt in gear I needed a plan. I reached out to the amazing GoLiveHQ team and they helped me get my site up and running in 5 days! If thats not a goal crushing timeline I don’t know what is!

3.  Understand your Purpose! This is by far the most underrated part of setting a goal and achieving it. I could talk all day about things I would love to accomplish, but it is all talk until I know very clearly why my goal is important to me.

Say I have set a goal for myself to start to eat healthy. I can talk all day about how I want to eat healthy but until I really dig in there and ask myself WHY I want to eat healthy I am not acting on this desire in my full capacity.

  • How will crushing this goal improve my everyday life?

  • What will acting on, maintaining and achieving this goal make me feel in the long run?

  • Is this something I could see myself doing for a lifetime or am I doing this for quick results?

  • What is an acceptable amount of time to give myself to achieve this goal?
